Tullahoma shortstop Trevor Cole hit an opposite-field single to right, scoring Andrew Zebick from second base in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Wildcats beat Giles County 2-1 Tuesday night at Grider Stadium.

The game was scheduled for Monday but moved back a day due to rain. The Wildcats and Bobcats will finish the District 8-AAA series Wednesday in Pulaski.

Tullahoma (3-0, 13-6) has won 13 consecutive games. Most of those wins have not been close. With five no-hitters and a hot-hitting offense, the Wildcats have only been challenged once, and they scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat Cookeville 8-7.

Their second challenge game Tuesday. Baylan Tuten pitched magnificently for the first six innings, scattering two hits and striking out 13 batters. However, with two on and two out in the seventh, Hunter Hogan took the mound to get the final out.

Giles County (0-3, 6-10) had other ideas, pushing across a run to tie the score at 1-1, setting the stage for the dramatic finish. Zebick coaxed Bobcats’ pitcher Rhett Hayes into a base on balls. With one out and Zebick on second, Cole delivered his walk-off RBI. He was named the Owens Provisions and Apparel Player of the Game.

The Wildcats will step outside the district and travel to Manchester Friday, facing off against their arch-rival Coffee Co. at 6:30 p.m. The Red Raiders are 14-5 overall and 1-1 in District 9-4A. District play for Tullahoma resumes Monday with a trip to Lawrenceburg. Game two of the series is Tuesday at Grider Stadium. Listen live on 93.9 The Duck.
