Cats Rough Up Rebels in Region Opener

The Tullahoma Wildcats scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams to top rival Franklin County 48-10 in the region opener Friday night in Winchester. 


After both teams punted on their opening possession Sam Bobo picked off Dawson Sowers Pass at the Tullahoma 39. The Cats cashed in the turnover six plays later as Lucas Reed hit Alex from 26 yards out and take a 7-0 lead with 5:32 left in the first quarter. 


After a Rebel three and out the Wildcats recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to double their lead with 4:08 left in the opening quarter.


Franklin County got on the board with 7:29 left in the half as Louie Arellano hit a 42 yard field goal cutting the Tullahoma lead to 14-3. 


The Cats extended their lead with a pair of scores in the final three minutes of the half. After a short punt and Franklin County penalty Reed connected with Alex Bobo for the second time in the game this time from 13 yards out. The PAT was no good making it 20-3 Tullahoma with 2:17 left in the second. Then after a Rebel fumble on the first play of the next drive Marvancy Johnson scored from a yard out to push the advantage to 27-3 at the half. 


Franklin County trimed the lead to 17 on their opening drive of the second half chewing nearly six minutes off the clock on a 12 play drive that ended with five yard TD pass from Jase Payne to Arellano with 3:38 left in the third. 


Marvancy Johnson scored for the second time of the night on the first play from scrimage to push the Tullahoma lead back out to 24 after the Rebels fumbled on their own 14 with 1:16 left in the third. 


Sam Bobo then scored on the very next play as he scooped up another Franklin County fumble and returned it 20 yards to push the lead to 41-10 with 1:04 to go in the third. Bobo’s interception and fumble recovery touchdown earned him Owens Provisons and Apparel Player of the Game honors. 


After a Julien Cole interception Jakoby Hill capped the scoring during a running clock fourth quarter as he scored from 8 yards out with to push the Tullahoma lead to 48-10 7:15 left in the game. 


With the win Tullahoma improves to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in Region 5-5A. They’ll host region leader Lincoln County next Friday at 7:00. Coverage begins at 6:30 on 93.9 The Duck.
