On Labor Day, Coffee County will join over 500 other communities in a nationwide movement to protest the Trump administration.

The Coffee County Democratic Party (CCDP) has organized a Workers Over Billionaires protest. Protesters will demonstrate on the sidewalk in front of Tullahoma High School from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sept. 1. After the demonstration, the protesters are invited to lunch at El Costal Restaurant at 12:30 p.m., where the CCDP has reserved a back room.

“It’s time to remind the rich, elite that this country belongs to us, the people who keep this country moving,” said Mike Stein, Chairman of the CCDP.

Workers Over Billionaires protests are popping up across the U.S. and were initiated by an organization called May Day Strong to protest the Trump administration and stop what its website calls a “billionaire takeover.” According to May Day Strong’s website, “Billionaires are stealing from working families, destroying our democracy, and building private armies to attack our towns and cities.”

The CCDP invites Coffee County residents to spend their Labor Day at Tullahoma High School.

“Join the national movement for working class power to stand against rising fascism, for racial justice, immigrant rights, LGBTQIA+ equality, gender justice, public services and human rights throughout the US and the world,” the CCDP said on Facebook.
