Training has paid off for the Coffee County Rescue Squad high angle rope team. On Monday night on private property in the Summitville area, a teenager had fallen down an embankment and was stuck on a small rock approximately 60 feet below the trail. The High Angle Rope Rescue team arrived on scene and lowered two rescuers down to the patient. First responders were able to confirm the victim had only suffered bumps and bruises and was still able to walk. After putting a harness and helmet on the victim, the team was able to utilize a simple mechanical advantage system and some muscle to haul both the rescuers and victim to safety and an awaiting ambulance. The rescue squad was assisted on scene by Summitville fire department, Coffee County Sheriff's Department, Coffee County Emergency Medical Service, and multiple local citizens.
