Escaped Inmate Captured: Tony Sweeton and Mother Arrested After Two-Day Manhunt Near Coffee County

An escaped inmate who escaped during the process of being transported to the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department has been captured.

Tony Jameson Sweeton, 23, escaped from a transport vehicle Wednesday while being transported from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, according to a Facebook post from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Sweeton reportedly escaped from the intersection of Highway 127 and Wattendorf Highway near the Franklin County and Coffee County line.

On Friday morning, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department reported Sweeton and his mother have been taken into custody.

The Manchester Police Department, the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the Arnold Air Force Police Base and the Tullahoma Police Department assisted in the search.

Sweeton is an inmate out of Coffee County and was due for a Circuit Court appearance on Wednesday. He was wanted on several charges, including aggravated assault.
