Golden Eagles Soar to District 9-4A Championship

Shelbyville used a double-digit spectacle from Jevon Lee and Tae’Shawn Shelton en route to a District 9-4A title, defeating Lincoln County, 60-56, on Tuesday night at Rick Insell Gymnasium in Shelbyville, TN.


Shelbyville set the tone early, but Lincoln County refused to back down, matching the Golden Eagles shot for shot. By the end of the first quarter, Shelbyville held a slim two-point lead, setting the stage for a back-and-forth battle.


The intensity only grew in the second quarter as both teams traded buckets, heading into halftime deadlocked at 25-25. With momentum up for grabs, Shelbyville came out firing on all cylinders in the second half. The Golden Eagles found ways to break through Lincoln County’s defense, but the Falcons stayed right on their heels. Shelbyville managed to clutch a two-point lead heading into the final frame.


The fourth quarter was a test of grit, as Lincoln County surged forward in an attempt to take control. But when the pressure was on, the Golden Eagles rose to the occasion, outscoring the Falcons 19-17 in the final stretch to clinch the District 9-4A Championship!


Jevon Lee led the charge, dropping 20 points, while Tae’Shawn Shelton added 16 to power the offense. Tommie Cannon’s clutch shooting, including the team’s only three-pointer, earned him Watson Metals Player of the Game. Shelbyville will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 1, as they host Nolensville, with tip-off at 7 P.M. The next broadcast on 105.1 Whiskey Country will be on Saturday, Mar. 3, as they host Nolensville. Pregame coverage will begin at 6:45 P.M.
