Lyme Disease Cases On The Rise In Tennessee

Bowman Broadcasting

According to the Tennessee Department of Health, cases of Lyme disease in our region are increasing every year, especially during the summer months, mostly due to tick bites.

There are several signs to look out for if you've been bitten: Fever, headache, fatigue, body aches. If you find that you have been bitten by a tick, and have these symptoms, don't wait to see your doctor.

Lyme disease can be treated, but the issue is when Lyme disease goes undetected, it could cause long-term problems including joint and heart issues.

Always check yourself after being outdoors, especially after being in wooded areas, or on a hike.

If you find a tick on you: Use fine-pointed tweezers and be sure to remove all parts of the tick.

Watch the area, and if swelling or redness doesn't subside within a couple of days, or you feel any of the aforementioned symptoms, contact your doctor to be seen right away.
