Gov. Bill Lee joined officials Wednesday to celebrate the $95 million grand opening of Duksan Electera’s first North American factory in Shelbyville. The South Korean company will produce electrolytes for battery makers supplying automakers in the Southeast. The facility will create 101 jobs and is expected to supply about 60,000 tons of electrolytes annually, the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development reported. Electrolytes transfer ions between electrodes in lithium-ion batteries, a key component in electric vehicle production.
