As the 2025–26 school year begins, Bedford County Schools is reminding parents and guardians that proof of residency will once again be required for all students in kindergarten through 8th grade.

School officials say the requirement is part of the district’s ongoing effort to ensure that students are enrolled in the correct schools and that resources are appropriately allocated.

Acceptable forms of proof of residency include:

  • A current utility statement

  • A letter of correspondence from a government agency

  • A lease agreement

The district encourages families to gather these documents ahead of time to avoid delays when school begins.

“Proof of residency helps us keep our schools strong and ready for every student,” the district said in an announcement. “Let’s make this school year the best yet.”

Parents with questions about documentation or enrollment can refer to the district’s official graphic or contact Bedford County Schools directly for more information.
