The Coffee County Red Raiders football team suffered its third defeat of the 2024 season, 21-0, at the hands of the Riverdale Warriors on Friday night at Tom Nolan Field at Phil Watts Stadium. After receiving the opening kickoff, Coffee County struggled offensively against a talented Warrior defense, forcing the Red Raiders to punt after just three plays. Though the Red Raiders (3-2, 1-0) were running at full throttle, the Warriors (4-1, 1-0) scored on the first play and made a two-point conversion to take the lead in the first half. The Red Raiders came out strong in the second half, but Riverdale would seal the game with a touchdown and two field goals. It marks Coffee County's first region loss and third loss of the season. The Red Raiders move to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in region play.
Offensively for Coffee County, Jayden Carter finished with a stellar 25 rushing yards on four carries. Deonte Short and Jordan Thompson both tallied 11 yards each. Kaysen Lowery added four yards on just two carries on critical drives. Tyler Smith was named the Giles Dunn Diamond Company Player of the Game after an impeccable defensive performance for the Red Raiders. Coffee County moves to 3-3 as they head back to Murfreesboro to face the Rockvale Rockets (1-5) on Friday, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. at Rockvale High School.
