A burglary call early March 31, 2025, led to the arrest of a man on drug and weapons charges, according to the Shelbyville Police Department.
Officers responding to a reported burglary at a mini barn near South Cannon Boulevard found a male subject, identified as William Jai'Quon Kress, inside the shed. Police said Kress was armed and fled on foot after ignoring officers' commands to show his hands.
Officers apprehended Kress after a short chase. Authorities say Kress discarded a firearm during the pursuit, which was later recovered. He was also carrying a backpack containing a lockbox.
A K-9 unit alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the lockbox, leading to a search warrant. Inside the lockbox, officers reported finding approximately 1.5 ounces of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, and baggies.
Kress, who was on state probation for drug sales, was charged with possession of Schedule II drugs with intent to distribute, resisting arrest, evading arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon during a felony.
