Tullahoma Fire Department Issues Winter Fire Safety Reminder

Writer's picture: Arnie WheelerArnie Wheeler

The Tullahoma Fire Department urges residents to take extra precautions this winter to prevent house fires, as the colder months of December through February account for nearly half of all home heating fires. To stay safe, maintain at least a three-foot clearance around heating sources like fireplaces and space heaters, and only use one heat-producing appliance per outlet.

Generators should be operated outside, away from windows, and carbon monoxide alarms should be tested monthly. Ensure chimneys are inspected annually, and store cooled ashes in metal containers at least 10 feet from homes. By following these steps, Tullahoma residents can reduce fire risks and stay safe this season.
