A former Tullahoma Wildcat is joining the coaching staff at his college alma mater. Jordan Sheffield has joined Tim Corbin’s staff at Vanderbilt as an assistant coach.
"I would say (they're) assistants," Corbin told the Tennessean Wednesday. "They've got a lot of experience, but they very much assist in the physical parts of the game, what they can do with the ball, the bat, but knowledge, they both played professional baseball."

Sheffield spent two seasons with the Commodores in 2014 and 2015 after electing not to sign with the Red Sox, who drafted him in the thirteenth round out of high school. After missing all of 2014 while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Sheffield was 5-2 with a 2.85 ERA and 55 strike outs in 60 innings of work as both a starter and relief pitcher. He was then drafted in the first round (36th overall) by the Dodgers in the 2016 draft. He’d spend four seasons in the minors before being taken by the Rockies in the 202 Rule 5 Draft. He made his major league debut on April 2, 2021 pitching a scoreless 9th inning vs the Dodgers. He’d post a 3.38 ERA in 30 appearances. He pitched only twice in 2022 before being sidetracked by a hip injury. He was sent to Triple-A in August of 22 and then released in October.
"Jordan was one of those kids who was a projected first-rounder out of high school and sat next to Maggie (Corbin's wife) his first year because he was medically redshirted, off the roster, so he learned the game from a different vantage point, but it really helped him as he was sophomore and a junior and and then got to play some major league baseball," Corbin said.
At Tullahoma Sheffield helped lead the Wildcats to an appearance in the 2013 Class AAA state tournament, the Wildcats also won the 2012 Region 4-AAA championship and the District 8-AAA regular season and tournament titles in 2012 and 2013. Tullahoma also qualified for the Class AAA sectionals in each of Sheffield’s four seasons.
Vanderbilt opens the 2025 season at MLB Desert Invitational vs Grand Canyon February 14th.
