On Sunday, June 2, 2024, the Hickerson Station VFD was dispatched to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival of the first engine the officer reported heavy fire and a significant amount of ammunition going off.

Automatic aid units who also responded were Hillsboro VFD, New Union VFD, North Coffee VFD, Summitville VFD, and the Coffee County Rescue Squad for rehab.
Units made an interior attack and battled the blaze for over an hour before extinguishing the fire. No firefighter injuries were reported. Both occupants of the home sustained injuries. One being smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital, while the other occupant sustained burns and was airlifted to Vanderbilt for treatment.
Hickerson VFD reports that multiple pets perished in the fire.
