Brody, Bobo & Betzelberger Bring Shelbyville Back

Down ten and facing a potential game-clinching first down by Columbia, the Shelbyville defense found a play when they needed it the most. Brody Lovvorn shot through the line to wrestle down the Lion ball carrier to force a turnover on downs, giving the Golden Eagles a fresh new outlook. 

Quarterback Stephen Bobo used that spark to connect with his brother William Bobo for a 35-yard pass connection flipping the field in Shelbyville’s favor. Stephen would keep it three plays later with a fourth down run of 23 yards pulling the Golden Eagles to within a field goal at 24-21 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

It was Ben Betzelberger’s turn to bring the magic with a perfectly placed pooch kick to open space on the near sideline allowing William Bobo to sprint down and pounce on the free play ball giving Shelbyville possession and a chance at a go-ahead score. 

Once again it was a Bobo to Bobo connection on fourth down setting up the go-ahead score by Stephen from three yards out. The PAT was pushed and Shelbyville’s lead was only three under a minute to go. 

It was Brody’s turn again as he intercepted a Columbia pass returning it for a Pick-Six sealing a Region 5-5A win for Shelbyville over Columbia 34-24.

Shelbyville moves to 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in Region play. Columbia falls to 2-2 and 0-1 inside the region. Shelbyville hosts non-region opponent Wilson Central (2-2) next Friday who lost to Green Hill 36-0. While Columbia takes on region foe Lawrence County (1-3, 0-1) who fell at Giles County Thursday night 29-25.
