Motlow State is pleased to announce that Daniel Price is the new head
coach of the women’s basketball team and Justin Newton is the new head
of the men’s basketball team. Both coaches come to Motlow with
impressive records and are excited to join the Motlow community.
Price is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, with coaching experience at
both the high school and collegiate levels. He is a former professional
basketball player who has led women’s and men’s basketball teams to
championship victories five times. Throughout his career, he has built
basketball programs from the ground up and pushed his teams to set new
records. His most recent achievement is leading the women’s basketball
team at Marshall University to victory at the Sun Belt Conference
regular season championship, which led them to a tournament championship
and to March Madness.
Price stated, “I am excited to lead the women’s basketball program
as head coach at Motlow State. I love the fact that I get an opportunity
to develop players and build a program while helping players accomplish
their goals and make it to the next level. I would like to thank God for
giving me this opportunity and this gift to coach. I would like to thank
the administration, AD Fanning, and President Dr. Torrence for providing
me with the chance to lead the women’s basketball program, and I would
like to thank my wife and my children for enduring the life of a
Coach.”
Newton has a bachelor’s degree in education from Liberty University
and a master’s degree in physical education and coaching from the
University of Arkansas at Monticello. He has spent the past six years at
Reinhardt University in Georgia and has 13 years of college coaching
experience. During that time, he has achieved a first-place finish, two
top-three AAC regular season finishes, and 115 wins as a head coach.
According to Newton, “My family and I are absolutely ecstatic to
become members of the Motlow State Family. It’s a wonderful place with
rich tradition that we hope to add to. Thanks to Dr. Torrence, Dr.
Johnson, AD fanning, the search committee, and the entire Motlow
community for bringing us on board! We look forward to striving toward
excellence on the court, the classroom, and the community. Go Bucks!”
The community can meet Price and Newton this summer at the Motlow State
summer basketball events for local students. High School seniors are
