Franklin County, TN — June 6, 2025
The Franklin County Emergency Management Agency & Rescue has announced a major update from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Huntsville: new software and system upgrades are now in place to enhance the delivery of severe weather alerts. The NWS announced the restoration of six transmitters, including Winchester NOAA weather radio WNG-554, broadcasting at 162.525 megahertz.
According to the agency, these improvements are designed to ensure faster, more reliable warning notifications through multiple channels, including NOAA Weather Radios, Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on cell phones, weather apps, and local media broadcasts.
“This is GOOD NEWS for everyone in our area,” Franklin County EMA & Rescue shared in a recent post. “The enhanced alert system is a critical step in helping us stay safe during dangerous weather situations.”
The agency is urging all residents to be proactive and use at least two methods to receive alerts, stressing that redundancy can make the difference in staying informed when severe weather strikes.
For those who need help programming their weather radios, Franklin County EMA & Rescue is offering assistance.
