Cooper Steel Honors Shelbyville Central High School's Tutoring Program with Scholarships

SHELBYVILLE, TN – Cooper Steel has been recognized for its strong support of Bedford County Schools, particularly Shelbyville Central High School (SCHS), and its "12 For 12" tutoring program. This program involves high school students volunteering to assist elementary students with academics, focusing on reading and math.
Recently, Cooper Steel celebrated the program's success with 8 SCHS groups and over 250 students in attendance. Jill Cook, Cooper Steel’s Community Engagement Director, was commended for inspiring the students and acknowledging their contributions.
As part of the celebration, Cooper Steel awarded $1,000 scholarships to several outstanding student volunteers, recognized as MVPs:
Cayden Duggin – Baseball
Jacob McGee – Basketball
Mason Shavers – Football
Alyssa Mitchell – Girls Soccer
Emmanuel Leyva – Boys Soccer
AJ Bonilla – Band
Krisha Patel – Renaissance
Arael Sanchez – NHS
Furthermore, Ben Betzelberger was named the 12/12 Ambassador for the 2024-2025 year and received a $5,000 scholarship.
Seniors who participated in the program were honored with cords, acknowledging the significant 7,664 volunteer hours contributed by SCHS students alone, and a total of 8,685 hours across ten groups including Cascade High.
