Twelve Tullahoma athletes left their respective track and field championships with medals this week, including Price Harden, who captured a state championship this past Saturday.

East and West Middle School opened the week by participating in the TMSAA State Championships on Saturday at Austin Peay State University. West Middle School had three athletes receive medals, while East Middle School had two students make the podium.

Harden opened his day by taking first place in the shot put for West Middle School, tossing a distance of 44 feet and 8.75 inches. The WMS eighth-grader added another medal later in the day as he took third place in the discus, after hurling a distance of 123-11.

“I am very excited to be a state champion,” Harden said. “This has always been a goal of mine. It means a lot to me that I made history for myself and West Middle School. Even before I threw in the shot put, I had the confidence and mindset that I was the best there. I knew that I had worked really hard to be in this position. I hold myself to high standards, and I knew I needed to be confident in every single throw. In the discus throw, I think I did very well competing with the best competitors in the state, and I held my own. Qualifying for state in two events was cool, but bringing home two medals is amazing.”

West Middle School also saw Camdyn Edward place sixth in the high jump, after she cleared 4-6. Lincoln Bitton also took home eighth in the 1,600-meter run, after finishing his race at 5 minutes and 1.30 seconds.

East Middle School saw two athletes place in the long jump competition. Makayla Murray took home second place after she leapt 15-3.25. Julius Jones followed with a fourth-place effort after jumping 18-6.5.

West also had three additional athletes compete at the state championships. Ashleigh Johnson took 10th in the 1,600 run with a time of 6:05.24, and she also finished 11th in the 800 run at 2:39.43. ShaNell Beechum took 13th in the shot put at 29-1, while Jake Raby finished 14th in the 800 run at 2:23.04.

East Middle School also had Brody McShea take part in the high jump, as he finished 12th at 4-10.

Tullahoma High School had seven athletes participate in the TSSAA State Track and Field Championships at MTSU on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Class AA State Championships were scheduled to take place on Tuesday, but weather delayed some running events until Wednesday.

Will Hyden led off Tuesday with a sixth-place effort in the shot put, after hurling a distance of 43-1.50. Ella Miller added a sixth-place effort in the 100 hurdles, after she finished her race in 16.02.

Tullahoma also had a 4x200 relay team compete at state. Logan Prosser, Jakoby Hill, Khani Johnson and Andrew Ewing teamed to take sixth place with a time of 1:29.83.

On Wednesday, Brindley Duncan placed sixth in the 800 run after she clocked in with a time of 2:25.24.

“Our track and field athletes at our middle and high schools are absolutely incredible. Having 12 athletes medal, including Price Harden’s state championship, is tremendous and a testament to the hard work of our athletes and support of our coaches and families,” said TCS Director of Schools, Dr. Catherine Stephens. “I want to congratulate all of our athletes for their successes this past week and for being a great representation of our district.”
